THE RAILWAY HOUSE

This National Heritage site built in 1913, has the most astonishing view of the sea. On calm days the sash windows are opened and one can smell the sea air and look out across the bay.

George and Jason are the cheffing team that you'll find in the kitchen, lovingly preparing each meal especially for you!

Head chef George Schoonraad has been in the industry for numerous years and joined the Railway House team two years ago. His passion for food and love of experimentation with new tastes spills over into the dishes he creates. Jason is a graduate from the prestigious Prue Leith Cooking School of Food and Wine and he lends an enthusiastic and creative twist to the outfit.

The underlying principal that they fashion the menu's to is fresh ingredients and fresh ideas. They strive to create South African food with a contemporary feel. It's about combining interesting ingredients that have been ignored for the last decade.

One of the most popular starters is the roasted papaya with sweet walnut relish; unusual but delicious. The seared fillet of game dressed with a basil chili pesto and peppadew mayonnaise is also a firm favorite. Our line fish usually served with a citrus beurre blanc, but as a specialty, George adds tree tomatoes - it seems that people are finally discovering how delicious and versatile they are.

When it comes to pudding, Railway House's marshmallow pavlova with fresh berries goes down a treat. Some patrons however can't finish the meal off without the chocolate and almond torte.

Try one dish or try them all! Each item on the menu is a delight and should be discovered and enjoyed at length.

SIMONSTOWN

The Meeting place
Situated in the picturesque village of Simon's Town along the bustling main road, The Meeting Place is a rather unique establishment created by talented owners Olivia Gain and Debbie Jaentsch. More than just a restaurant and coffee shop, it embraces a well stocked deli shop that offers a tempting selection of goodies from freshly baked bread to olive oils and preserves, as well as a treasure trove of interior accessories. The ambience is incredibly relaxed and for many regular clients it is like a home from home, with comfortable couches centered around an old fashioned cast iron fireplace, and a magazine rack stacked with plenty of reading material to peruse whilst enjoying your favourite cake and coffee.

Currently available for Friday, Saturday and Sunday lunch the buffet consists of an appetizing array of salads, roasted and marinated vegetables and assorted quiches, and ingredients will change daily depending on what is in season.

Separate breakfast, lunch and dinner menus provide a wide choice of dishes depending on what time of day you arrive, and there is always a good selection of cakes and tarts available for mid-morning coffees and afternoon teas. Breakfasts are served until 12h30 and are popular throughout the week, with variations of the Eggs Florentine a hit with regulars. The lunch menu offers a selection of sandwich fillings with freshly baked bread, and the option to make up your own salad from an impressive list of deli ingredients. More substantial fare includes a superb gourmet beef burger topped with bacon and cheddar cheese. Recommendations on the dinner menu include the Salmon Trout served with baby spinach and a poached egg, and the Grilled Springbok with orange honey and thyme sauce.
